Pop Knit Wk 7

Earlier in the week, we were given a list of supplies to work on this week. We were curious in knowing what it could be. Last night we found out that these supplies were for starting the Nicki Gabrielle patterns.

Unfortunately, Linda could not make it last night, but Teri filled in for her and did a great job.

Here are some of the show and tells:

Toni finished her rug except for the final touches Linda may want. Everyone loved it and enjoyed looking at it. She also knitted a cute pink and green dress for her four year old granddaughter.

Candi showed us her finished, lined knitting needle purse and the Scandinavian heart basket.

Irene brought her little heart pin that we worked on last week for Valentine's Day.

Linda L. shared to say a prayer for Sandy's son who was in a serious accident this past weekend and is in a coma.

We discussed the meeting time for this exciting trip. We are guessing that we should be in the parking lot behind Raley's at the Foresthill exit at 6:30 a.m. The bus leaves promptly at 7 a.m., and we will start boarding at 6:30 a.m. We will return to Auburn around 9:30 p.m.

Pop Knit Week 6
In case you are wondering what happened to blog #5, it was Valentine's night, and we had a nice salad bar and dessert potluck. We knitted heart patterns for fun. Diane shows us the colorful vest that we were supposed to make several years ago in one of Linda's classes. I think less than a handful of ladies ever finished their vest. Linda L. is getting close to finishing hers.

Knit and be happy!

Pop Knit Wk 5

This week we learned to knit circles. Linda demonstrated the provisional cast on technique using a crochet needle and the three needle bind off to close the circles. These circles make a cute top or edging. Two handouts were sent to us for the class: the provisional cast on and the pattern for the circle.

Show n Tell
Candi brought a lot of alpaca yarn that she sold for $2 each.

Mary Beth is almost finished with her Fisherman's purse. She also made two cute pink baby hats with a little flower on them. The hats have a vintage look.

Teri knitted a cute blue t-shirt rug for her nephew in England. She also had great news for us. Her article in Green Craft magazine that she won using chalk paint is in stores now. Make sure you see it; it is a lovely article. Congratulations, Teri!

Valentine's Party
Next Thursday is Valentine's Day, but we will still have class. There will be a salad bar and dessert potluck, and a sign up sheet was passed around so we do not bring duplicate dishes. Linda will bring three special knit heart projects.

For the felted heart, bring feltable ww yarn, sz 10 needles, and a little stuffing. We will learn the wrap and turn technique on this one.

For the heart pin, bring sock yarn, needles appropriate for your yarn, a plastic lid to cut into shape and insert into the pin, and a tapestry needle.

For the heart basket, have ww yarn and size 5 needles. We will probably not have time to finish this one in class.

For the special project Teri has made for the bus trip, bring size 2 needles or dpns depending on whether you mind sewing up a seam or not. Donations for the raffle are appreciated. Linda is looking for the discount coupon for the Market Place to copy for us. Toni says you can print out the map of vendors from Ravelry.com

Happy Knitting!

Pop Knit Wk 4

We practiced ruching this week. Our handout showed two different ruching techniques. The first one is very easy and can be used on tops as a design element. The second one takes a little more work which Linda demonstrated; this one is used on a tea cozy to keep the teapot warm longer.

Show and Tell
Toni knitted two bright colored little girl sweaters.

Candi finished another cute baby sweater using pink rose patterned yarn.  Rosemary made a cute little girl's dress with a matching sweater.

Linda B. knitted a bubble scarf using brown and green yarn together.

Irene finished a rug for Linda's book.

Next Week
For next week, you will need to bring a crochet hook, an extra needle for a three needle bind off, and stash yarn for the provisional cast on.

Need Novelty Yarn
Louise is in need of all kinds of yarn for the rug she is making, especially novelty yarns. Only 8 yds is needed.

Valentine's Party
In two weeks, it will be Valentine's Day. Class will still be on, so we will have a salad bar and dessert. A sign up sheet is being passed around. Linda has also come up with three very special projects. She showed us one of them in class: a cute felted heart.

For the projects, you will need the following items:

1. Felted heart: 100% felting yarn, sz 10 needles, little stuffing

2. Knitted heart pin: sock yarn, needles (depending on the yarn sz 1, 2, or 3)

3. Woven heart basket: pattern will be given to us

This annual event is coming up in three weeks, Feb 23. The cost is only $47 for the round trip bus ride. Donations for prizes are being accepted for this trip. Even though you may not want to buy yarn, it is great for being inspired with new ideas.

Happy knitting!
