Pop Knit Wk 11

It was the last class of the middle session. We are taking the last week of March off for spring break. We learned two interesting techniques. Here is Irene's sample of knitting a braid row using two or three strands of yarn. Sandy tried it with four strands.

We also practiced knitting welts. Karen made a two-color one that I should have taken a picture of.

Linda shared the Red Heart catalog with us. They are expanding into novelty yarns, and the catalog shows the variety of colors.

Third Session
Good news! The next session is nine weeks instead of eight weeks (for the same price) and starts on April 4 through May 30.

Linda suggests that we do an end of class year event. Last year we had tea at the Mansion Inn. This year she asked if we want to do a Sip and Knit at a winery for wine tasting and knitting. Of course, no one said "yea" or "nay."

Fall Class
The theme for the Fall class starting in September is "Sweaters, Shells, Skirts, and Shrugs." There will be something of interest for everybody.

Art Fiber in SF
The sign up list was passed around. A date has not been selected yet. If you go, remember to bring your own knitting needles for yarn tasting.

Here's some of the ladies pondering color choices for Karen W's rug project.

Toni started her top that she bought from Dandoh at Stitches; she also showed us a couple of cute gargoyle patterns that she ordered online. Penny finished her "Sock It To Me" bracelet designed by Teri. Linda had a good idea; she suggested that we all wear the one we made for a group picture.

I wish you happy knitting and Happy Easter this week!

Pop Knit Wk 10

It was the smallest class ever, and one of the quietest. But, we enjoyed the evening.

Linda brought little weavettes to make little woven pieces. She also demonstrated Honeycomb #2 and Two-Color Garter Stitch, Four Rows #1. She gave us a handout of the latter pattern.

We practiced the top one. We might try the bottom one next week.
Next week is our last class of this session. We will have a break the last week of March. The first class of the third, shorter session begins on April 4.

Art Fibers
Linda came up with several dates for this one-day trip to Art Fibers in SF. A sign up sheet was passed around. The cost of the train ticket will be $36 round trip from Auburn to SF and back.

Free Books
Rosemary donated two knitting books for anyone interested. One was the Knitting Gansey book, and the other was Nicky Epstein's Knitting for Your Home. The books went to good homes.

Secondhand Bras
Karen W. is collecting bras for her Rotary Club. They will send them on to third world countries to help support ladies coming out of the sex trafficking trade. Please bring them next week.

I love this picture. Rosemary's top fits her perfectly.

Sandy knitted an afghan. Her son has been moved to a hospital in San Jose from Sacramento.

Toni made these cute dresses for her granddaughters.
Happy knitting!

Pop Knit Wk 9

Linda was back and looking well from her appendix surgery. This week we worked on the first of three honeycomb techniques. Our homework assignment for this week is to cast on 22 sts and knit 15 rows of stockinette stitches starting with a purl row.  It was also a night for the fashion show.

We worked on the one on the right. Next week we will make the one on the left.

Linda looks great in Teri's sweater.

Toni's sweater just kept on stretching.

Linda L. started this pretty vest years ago in one of Linda's classes. She just finished it!

Linda made this lovely sweater; it's a perfect fit.
The last week of this session is March 21. We will take a break during the last week of March, and then the new session starts on April 4. We will continue with pop knitting for the shorter session.

In the Fall, Linda is thinking of working on sweaters with interesting techniques.

By the way, Karen M. finished the rug for Linda's book. It is beautiful!

President on Facebook
Toni noticed that some of our presidents were on the Cascade 220 facebook page. There were a lot of likes and nice comments. The website is https://www.facebook.com/CascadeYarns/timeline .

Road Trip!
Linda had exciting news for us. She mentioned having a road trip to Art Fibers in San Francisco this summer taking the train from Auburn and returning the same day. Tickets would cost about $36 round trip if we buy a 10 person pass.

Toothbrush Looping
Linda taught a class on Saturday at Sierra College making this cute bag using a toothbrush.

Happy knitting!

Pop Knit Wk 8

Last Saturday we had a great time at Stitches West. Linda was unable to come because of an unexpected appendicitis operation, but Leslie Rogers did a great job filling in for Linda. With the wonderful world of technology, pictures were sent to her from Stitches, and we were able to show Linda what we bought back in class.

On Thursday, Teri filled in for Linda and did a great job.

Special Request
Karen Williams is collecting second hand bras for third world countries during the month of March. The organization that she belongs to is trying to send over 5,000 bras overseas.
