Pop Knit III Wk 4

Holes. Yes, we worked on holes, but nice ones. Linda went over the intarsia pattern for the cute holes. Our homework is to finish the base, whether we want to make the open hole and/or closed in hole. She will show us how to add the center curled piece next week. Note: one row on the pattern chart equals two rows.

Braided Piece
We also learned how to put the two cabled braids together.

Construction Piece
Linda apologized for giving us the wrong measurements last week. The new measurements are the following:

Hood, 10" by 18.25"

Hood and Scarf, 10 by 36.75

Hoody Vest, 20 by 36.75

Scarf Only, 10 by 36.75

Vest, 15 by 36.75

Cardigan, width 13 3/4 inches, length 8 (front) x 5.75 (armholes) x 9 1/4 (back) x , 5.75 (armholes) x 8 (front). The model is super slim, so make adjustments for your measurements. Teri and Toni made templates out of material for their measurements. For example, Teri's vest measures 8 x 10 x 18 x 10 x 8 inches.

Sleeves, knit 5.75 inches of stockinette before starting decrease.

Potluck Next Week
We are having a potluck next week in honor of Linda's husband who eats frozen dinners on the nights she teaches class. Linda is deeply appreciative. She is bringing plates, napkins, and silverware. In addition, bring two rolls of crepe paper of any color, a little ribbon for the tie, and size 10 1/2 needles for our special project: a birthday crown. Candi mentioned that you can buy a package of two rolls at the Dollar Store.

Materials Fee
Reminder, a $5 materials fee is being collected.

Blue Yarn for Louise, Please
Louise is in need of any type and shade of blue yarn to complete a rug. The length should be a generous 8 yards.

Toni knitted both this lovely top and skirt. She bought the pattern for the top at Stitches, and the skirt is a Cascade 220 pattern.

Lynette models a beautiful circular vest that Toni knitted.
Happy knitting everyone!

Pop Knit III Wk 3

It was a special night with a surprise for everyone who knitted a president. First of all, we were surprised to see Sue, Cynthia, and Penny, who were available to join us for the evening. Linda wrote and designed a limited edition fun facts and coloring book of the presidents that she gave to everyone who made a president. Each person who made a president signed their name on the page that their president was mentioned. Thank you very much, Linda!

We worked on two different projects. One was the construction pattern of squares and rectangles, and the other was the braided row technique using cables. Next week, we will learn to put the cable braided rows together and make the donut hole technique using two colors.

Materials Fee
Don't forget to pay for the materials fee of $5.

Webs Sale
Toni mentioned that the Webs sale is still going on. Cascade 220 can be purchased at a great price.

Potluck May 2
The birthday potluck is in two weeks. A sign up sheet was passed around. Linda has a special project for us to make. Bring size 10 1/2 straight needles, a little ribbon to tie on, and two rows of crepe paper of any color to knit a birthday crown.

Show n Tell
Cynthia made the cutest little baby booties.
Rosemary and Irene finished their rug.

Linda knitted two fur ball scarves.

Penny showed us the felted bag she made.

Toni knitted this lace top.

And she knitted this soft shawl.

Happy knitting!

Pop Knit III Wk 2

Having fun learning a new technique.

This weekend, Linda is teaching a class making this cute basket out of paper towel and toilet paper wraps.

Linda showed us two other construction patterns by Nikki Gabriel, and we worked on the braided band handout given to us by email. We took a lot of notes. Our homework is to make two of the braided band part 1 for next week. You will need to bring a crochet hook size E or F.

Fiber Festival
Also this Sunday is the First Annual Shepherd Gathering and Fiber Festival at 11515 Joeger Road, Auburn. The website is http://flyingmulefarm.com. Linda was wondering if anyone is planning to go.

Materials Fee
Don't forget the $5 materials fee.

End of Year Party
Any thoughts about the end of year party?

Show n Tell
Louise is almost finished with one of the rugs. She is looking for 8 yards of any shade and type of blue yarn for the second rug she is making.

Irene is almost finished with a rug too.

Sandy will probably be done soon as well.

Rosemary only has a couple of rows to go.

Happy knitting!

Pop Knit III Wk 1

First class of the third session! Welcome back to Carol and Jen who took the winter session off and to newcomers from Linda's other knitting class Diana and Jenny. We were reminded of this blog, the class phone list, the "I Need Help" board, and the $5 materials fee.

We received a handout on three different Bind Off Rows. Linda demonstrated how to pick up the purl row on the wrong side to make the braid on the front of a stockinette sample. A couple of tips: always work with an odd number of rows, start with the purl stitches for row 1, bind off on the right side, and pick up stitches on the right side.

Past and Future Swatches
Next week we will have a look at Constructions 2 and 3 of the modular patterns. The first pattern were all squares; next time we will incorporate rectangles. Linda will give us measurements to work the patterns with any yarn weight instead of just the super chunky yarn the fabulous -0 model is wearing. Teri is wearing a shrug from the Construction 1 pattern.

Ideas started popping, and we started talking about parties...already. We had a lengthy discussion for our end of the season party incorporating the construction patterns in a competition making our own design in teams of four people.

We also decided to have a potluck on May 2 as a favor to Linda since it is her husband's birthday, and he eats frozen dinners four nights a week while Linda teaches. He loves our potlucks. Linda will bring the dessert. Ideas for gifts included cozies for his wrench or any car tool.

A real size knitted Ferrari led us on a discussion that it may be time for another yarn bombing incident in Auburn. Linda suggested the huge statue of the Chinese man downtown.

Show and Tell
Sandi finished one of the rugs she has been knitting for Linda; it is warm and cushy. Karen M. showed us some of the pieces that she bought at the rock show in Roseville. Rosemary and Linda shared that Denise Needles took back their worn out or broken set and replaced them with a whole new set.

Toni knitted a beautiful skirt using ribbon yarn.

She also knitted a vest for her husband.

And with the leftover yarn from the vest, Toni made this cute gargoyle.

New class member, Jenny, wore the nice vest she made in one of Linda's other knitting class.
Happy knitting, everyone!
