Moebius Week 3

We discovered this week how important it is to follow the gauge chart for Moebius knitting, no matter how small it looks to you. A few of the scarves turned out to be longer than expected as in Bea’s crotch-length scarf. Tip: every scoop action is one stitch. When the gauge says 120 stitches, you really have 240. I wish I took more photos this week; I brought the wrong camera, so I couldn’t get it to work properly.

Party
Next week is the last class, and it’s party time! Bring finger food, your own drink, a camera, and all of your knitting projects from class, even the sweater from the Fall class for photos. Linda will bring plates and napkins.

Fall Classes
Next Fall, Linda is proposing two knitting classes: one for beginners and one for Beyond the Basics called Holiday Knits. In Holiday Knits, projects will be made for gifts and holiday décor. Projects include chenille washing cloths, a pumpkin purse, a cornucopia center piece, and knitting needles. Registration begins on August 28. I hope to see you all then.

Summer Gathering
Don’t forget, there will be a couple of summer knitting pool parties at Carolyn’s house in Auburn. The first one will be on June 14 (not the 21st). A map will be emailed to you, and I will also post it in a blog.

Circular Needles
Linda mentioned a company called Bayling or Bay Ling makes 11” circular knitting needles in sizes 3 through 10. Rumpelstiltskin carries this brand from $5 to $5.85. These are like the Clover brand.

Candi shared with us a really funny scenario on women and public restrooms that she received via e-mail. We could not stop laughing since we could all relate to using a public restroom. It was then Georgia taught us a new phrase: “Stand and spray or sit and pray.”

Have a wonderful week.

Moebius Week 2

The show n' tell was fantastic. There were moebius scarves, bags, baskets, and even a mouse bed! We came to a conclusion last night that we have some serious knit addicts in this class. We continued our moebius scarves, and Linda reviewed the cast on. Linda's daughter is back for the summer; it is nice to have her join us.
Carolyn has invited us for a pool party in June. Please jot this date on your calendar: June 21 (UPDATE - THIS DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO JUNE 14), Thursday, at 6 p.m. Share appetizers and bring along your swimsuit and/or knitting. Map will be available at a later day.
Ruth and Diana finished their soft and beautiful moebius scarves. Ruth's scarf is above, and Diana's scarf is below.
Ruth made the cute baskets below. You go, girl!
Linda, our instructor, showed us the fabulous projects she displayed at a gallery in Reno: a beautiful, detailed felted purse and a moebius basket with a flower wrapped around the handle. The flowers are on both sides of the purse, so you know this took time.
Bea made this darling Denise purse below from the pattern distributed at the last class.

Above is the inside of the mosaic needle case Beverly "whipped" together; the outside is below, the lovely black and white dog design. She also made a longer version of the Andean purse, finished her eye glass case and needle holder with a faux suede lining. What talent!
In two weeks, Diane created a wonderful moebius bag, basket, a darling mouse bed, and two different needle holders. She plans to felt the red basket. What next? Those of you who were absent, we missed you. You are all an inspiration. Can't wait to see what projects you bring next week.

Moebius Week 1

Welcome to our two new knitters, and I’m sorry I did not write down their names. Candi brought some fantastic show n’ tells. Ruth and Diane made another Andean purse, and both Candi and Diana finished the tea cozies. Teri showed us some unusual knitting needles that have smaller sizes inside the needles, like a box with smaller boxes inside.

First Extension Class
Linda went over pages 10, 14, and 15 in the Cat Bordhi book #2. She demonstrated the moebius cast on, and we spent the evening practicing how to cast on and knit the first round. It is different; but once you get the hang of it, it is fun. The hardest part is the beginning: cast on and first round. A 2-page handout was given to us on how many stitches are needed to cast on for a moebius scarf and a copy of the moebius cowl scarf from Knitty Gritty which Linda L. brought for us.

Tips
Moebius knitting is knitting from the center out.
Start the cast on with a slip knot.
When you complete one round, you are actually completing two rounds.
You can only have one twist or overlap of cable; if you have more than one twist, then it is not moebius.
MCO stands for Moebius cast on.

Homework
Practice cast on and maybe knitting the first round.

Denise Needles
Auburn Needleworks will start to carry Denise Needles soon. A 10% discount is given to enrolled knitting students. Also the discontinued clover circular needles are in.

Reminder, there is no class next week. See you on May 17.
