Pop Knit Wk 3

It was a smaller class, but we received a lot of personal attention. Linda was going to cover one of the handouts on the Elements of Art, but she decided to wait until next week.

We practiced knitting a sample of the Casting On and Binding Off technique which makes a nice shag rug.

Linda L. had a copy of the updated phone list for this session.

For Show and Tell, Linda B. had several different flowers that she knitted, and Diane showed us some silk scarves that she dyed with plants.

Next Week
Linda will go over the Elements of Art and ruching which is used on a tea cozy pattern called the African Queen.

Valentine's Night
Feb. 14 falls on a Thursday this year. Linda will still hold class, and we agreed to a Salad Bar and Dessert Night. A sign up sheet was passed around to list the salad ingredient we plan to bring.

Stitches West
Sign up if you want to go. Linda is looking for donations. She shared that Teri has come up with another kit for us.

Material Fee
Don't forget to pay the $5 fee if you haven't already.

Happy Knitting!

Pop Knit Wk 2

We worked on the rest of the welts from the two handouts. Linda went over one of the new handouts: Shortened and Lengthened Rows #2, and she showed us pictures of many samples from the book.

Regarding "Welt Variation #2 Welts and Stockinette," you can do as many rows of stockinette stitches as you want, but you need to do an odd number of rows and not even number of rows. You can also change colors such as do the welts in one color and the stockinette portion in a different color.

On "Slipped Stitches to Form Welts #4," watch the color change. Linda gave us a hint on this one: Color 1 can be carried all the way through, but Colors 2 and 3 will need to be broken because there is too big of a gap to carry the yarn.

For the "Shortened and Lengthened Rows #2" pattern, just follow the directions carefully. On Shape 3, it is difficult to figure out where to pick up stitches, so add it anywhere you think is right. This pattern will make a fun shawl or wrap.

Plant Fibers
Linda also brought samples of flax that is used to make linen yarn and a cotton plant to show us what it looks like on the plant.

Rugs
Wow! It is fun to see the different rugs in progress.

Stitches West
It is coming up next month. The cost is $47, only $2 more than last year. We will be going on the last Saturday in February. Donations are being accepted for the prizes on the bus.

Materials Fee
A $5 fee is being collected. Write "paid" by your name when you pay your fee.

Photos and Show n Tell
For some reason, I cannot upload photos into the blog anymore. The option I used to add photos is no longer there. When I figure it out, I will upload the photos from the last two weeks. In the process of trying to figure it out last week, I lost all of the photos from the past to the present.

This week Rosemary showed us her Knitting Needle purse; it is beautiful. Toni had four Show n Tells: a lovely blue lace top that she wore, a black crop sweater, a toddlers multicolor sweater, and a pair of striped leg warmers.

Happy knitting!

Pop Knit Wk 1

Welcome back!  And, welcome to the newest member, Diana. It was the first night of class, and we had an enjoyable time knitting and drinking tea. This session is about Pop Knitting and making pieces from Nikki Gabrielle's designs. Linda wrote in an email: "We will discuss the Constructions at the first class. It is hard to believe it is already 2013 and time for knitting again. I hope everyone is ready for an exciting semester learning some fabulous techniques that can be used in a variety of ways and will in general stretch you as knitters. In addition, I am excited to introduce Constructions to you. Starting with a basic shape such as a square, everything from a caplet to a full sweater can be knit and everything in between. I can't wait to see everyone on Thursday."

Unfortunately while trying to load photos on the blog, I deleted all the photos from the past to the present. Of course, I am sick about it. There is no way I can put them back. I am very sorry.

Pop Knitting Lesson
We practiced two of the techniques (the first ones on the two handouts we received). Linda casted on 19 stitches for the samples. Reminder: Wyb stands for with yarn in back; Wyf stands for with yarn in front. Supplies for this class are: 4 ww yarn of different colors from your stash, size 7 needles straight or circular, row counter, and stitch markers.

Materials Fee
A $5 material fee is being collected. Write "paid" next to your name on the enrollment list when paying.

Stitches West

Vogue Knitting Convention Update
The knitted presidents will not be going to the NY Vogue knitting convention at this time as mentioned in an email during the holidays. They will be on display in Sauder Village (Ohio) from February to the end of October of this year.

Thank you to Louise for bringing us tangerines fresh off the tree from her yard.

Happy knitting everyone!
