Break

Hi. Are you knittin'? There is no class today. New class starts next week. Bring a variety of yarn and needles, especially worsted weight and size 8 needles for free form knitting.

Liz sent an email about meeting at Round Table tonight on Elm Street at 6 pm. It is still on.

Last week Vicki mentioned that she is going to Stitches West 2008 in Santa Clara (held February 21-24). I looked it up online, and it looks fantastic. The admission price is not bad especially if you go just to browse and shop. You can download the brochure from www.knittinguniverse.com; it's 20 pages in Adobe. Thought you'd like to know that Babetta's in Fair Oaks is organizing a group to go by train on that Saturday too.

Knit on!

Extension Week 2

Bea's fantastic carpet bag with beads is finished! It is huge, heavy, and lined on the inside with beautiful material and a pocket.
Teri found this knitted quilt in a thrift store. A lot of work went into this large quilt which was all sewn together with thread. Irene knitted the neck warmer and hooded scarf; patterns are from "Knit 2 Together."

Linda's show n' tell. The slippers are complete with the help of her daughter. The darling ghords with fiber arts will be shown to her friend, an author that is writing a book on fiber arts; Linda will be a hand model in the book.

As usual, it was a pleasant evening as we chatted and worked on our knitting projects. The triangles chosen for the backgammon sets really stand out and look nice. No one has completed it yet, so hang in there with the repetitive design.

A few students came to class disappointed that they are on the waiting list for the spring class. If you are on that list, don’t lose hope. Linda came up with a couple of ideas such as splitting the class or having some come during the beginning knitting class. I think we all want to stay together, so let’s wait and see what happens.

Linda mentioned the attendance for this class is great. But with the new budget cuts announced, attendance for students over 55 is crucial in keeping this class going. Keep in mind that Placer School for Adults receives no money (funding) without the attendance numbers.

There is no class next week for semester break. Liz is organizing a meeting place for anyone who wants to get together to knit next Thursday night. Watch for her email message.

For the first class on January 31, Linda will go over the various vest patterns that will be handed out, plus teach us free form. Bring a variety of yarn and needles especially worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles for the first class.

Have a wonderful week and have fun knitting.

Extension Week 1

Julie dyed the yarn with kool aid which turned out really colorful.

Noelle made the scarf and used the trim on a purse for "the Challenge;" both turned out beautiful.
Liz made the cute hats above.

Vickie's cool shirt from x-tremegeek.com.

It was nice to see each other again. The evening was lively as we caught up on holiday events and knitting projects, cut circles from paper for Linda’s art class, learned how to play backgammon, and looked through the new 2008 knitting calendar. Vicki showed us a cool T‑shirt she received for Christmas and Louise suggested having shirts made; she will ask her daughter to design a logo for our class. Three new ladies from the beginning knit class joined our extension; welcome Trish, Donna, and Andrea.

Linda went over the backgammon pattern, especially the part on wrapping since it prevents large holes in the project. She says to ignore the words “P3tog tbl” (purl 3 together through back loop) at the end of the P wrap definition. Also, K wrap and K2 wraps mean the same thing, so does P wrap and P2 wraps. Note when wrapping, the second picked up stitch must be placed completely over the first picked up stitch. And, the diamonds alternate colors on each side and across from each other. If you do not want to use the pattern for backgammon, it also makes into a bag or purse; I think it can be used as a table runner too.
