3d Trimester, Wk 6

This week was state flower knit night. It was so nice to see Bea, Karen M, Eileen, and Colleen join us and share what they are making. The flowers are all beautiful, and it was so nice to receive help from everyone.

Karen's lilacs. There are 90 flowers on here. See the little bumble bee? She also made Nevada sagebrush which is just as detailed and real looking. I'm sorry I forgot to take a picture.

Mae from the Monday night class felted a camellia. The leaves have veins.

The California poppy by Sandy. Great color.

Moebius Scarves

Rosemary made a moebius bag and a scarf that can be wrapped around her neck 4 times. She is holding the scarf in her left hand.

Laurie's pretty lavendar scarf.

Nancy's lovely gray scarf.

Pat's sweet scarf.

Next Week
We have several choices for next week's project. Please pick one and bring the appropriate supplies.

a. Work on state flower.

b. Work on moebius scarf.

c. Revisit the felted modular bag. Bring 5 colors of wool yarn.

d. Make color plastic yarn. Bring white plastic bags, acrylic Apple Barrel metallic paint or any small jars of acrylic paint (the 50 cent kind), newspaper, a sea sponge or saran wrap, a paper plate, and an apron.

e. A secret one-night project. Bring small amounts of scrap feltable wool yarn and size 10.5 needles.

Linda's plastic color yarn using metallic paint.

Colleen's sister sewed a knitting tote bag and a circular needle holder for her birthday. The bag is a nice large size. Colleen also gave us a pattern for felted flip flops.

Happy knitting!

3d Trimester, Wk 5

Isn't this cute? This hood is really a moebius shawl twisted twice. It's worth it to take time to measure and gauge like Teri did. When worn as a shawl, it rests elegantly on her shoulders.

Sandi made two moebius scarves using different yarns and patterns; she also knitted a regular scarf with beautiful, soft brown yarn that she bought at Stitches West.

Claudia completed her plorn bag! She says that she is obsessed with finding unusual color plastic bags.

Moebius Project
This week some of us worked on the moebius scarves while others started on their state flowers.

State Flower Challenge
Next week is state flower night. Half of the class got started tonight. Good news: all of the state flowers are taken! Thank you to all of you who are knitting multiples. Diana sent us all an email regarding the details this week.

Knitted Bras
Candi mentioned that High Hand is having a decorated bra auction for the Breast Cancer Society. She thought you may want to donate your knitted bra to a good cause if it is lying in the back of a closet. The registration fee is $10. For information, see their website (highhand.com), or contact Candi.

$1 Sale
Diane's daughter is having a $1 sale this Saturday at her boutique. See left hand column under "Our Web Sites" for details.

It's Official
Some more good news: Linda's son proposed on Thursday (4/15) at Cinderella's castle. Yes, his girlfriend was surprised and happy. The staff at Disney World made it very special.

Cynthia finished her gloves: a perfect fit!

Pat felted this cute box made out of squares.

Happy knitting!

3d Trimester, Wk 4

Happy Birthday April knitters! Look at the projects finished over spring break.

Pat made a gorgeous beaded scarf using two rows of the pattern given to us.

Sandy finished her third plorn bag.

Vickie finished two plorn bags (one is made with less than 1 skein of Bernat cotton yarn using sz 15 needles) and the "twirly" scarf.

Diana knitted a market bag using two different skeins of yarn together; it is very stretchy.

Teri finished the shrug! It is very nice, and she says it is comfortable. The back has little fringes across.

Announcements
Louise will be ordering the following DVDs: The 58 state socks and Teaching Yourself Visually to Knit.

Linda plans to teach the following classes this year:
Recycled Cordage (rope by hand). Please save any bread, paper roll, and/or toilet paper wrappers for Linda.
Quilt basket.
Crochet purse using soda pull tabs. Start saving soda tabs.

State Flower Challenge
The class on Apr 22 will be dedicated as "flower night" for us to work on the state flower challenge in class. The deadline has been moved up since the state fair starts earlier this year. Diana will be filling out the application for us in the "craft" division which is due on Apr 16. Our drop off date is May 14-15. Vickie will be in charge of the name tags for each piece. We will not be entering the Art Walk in June because of the date conflict with the state fair, so we will showcase the flowers at the Art Walk in August. Linda is begging and pleading for all the flowers to be taken; a few are still left.

Moebius Project
Two handouts were given to us: Moebius cast on and a simple Moebius scarf pattern. Linda demonstrated the cast on as we watched and practiced.
Tip: Change to a larger needle size when binding off so it doesn't look tight.
We will continue with the Moebius project next week.

The Moebius home position for cast on (sort of -- it is hard to get a stationary photo.)

Linda finished a wedding garter for her future daughter-in-law. Her son has not proposed yet, but Linda has already bought her dress for the wedding. The proposal will take place in the near future. It was nice to have her daughter visit the class this week.

Diane knitted a very soft scarf from mohair.

Gloria felted this cute purse using a button she ordered from Leslie.

Gloria also knitted this darling bunny sweater from Knit Simple. She ordered cute polka dot buttons in pink and purple to match from Leslie.

Leslie's friend at the Farmer's Market makes and sells these yarn holders for $30. It is beautiful.

Happy Knitting!

Class This Week

Hi. We will have class this Thursday, Apr 8. Bring long cable needles and plain yarn to learn how to cast on for a moebius scarf.

See you there.
