Auburn Art Walk

First of all, Happy Birthday to all August knitting babes!

This week Diana sent us an email message for the Auburn Art Walk. It is this Thursday evening, 8/12, at 6-9 pm. She is asking for volunteers to assist by taking half-hour shifts. Here is part of her message:

"Our location this year is in front of either the Police Station or City Hall on Lincoln Way (right at the three-way intersection of Lincoln Way and Hwy 49. We will have a lot of drive-by lookie loos! I can't remember which one Linda said (Police Dept or City Hall), but they are in the same place, so either way I am sure we can park in the lot behind the City Hall. We will assemble our little show somewhere out front on the grass. We have a bedframe to use for our display, and the cute painted watering can. I plan to arrive around 5pm for setting up. My husband will be assembling the bedframe and we will put boards or planks across for the flowers to sit on. It should look cute.

At last year's Art Walk, Colleen made a sign for our Knitted Icon display. Does anyone volunteer to make a sign for our flowers? Just a poster board that says Knotty Knitters of Auburn present Knitted Flowers of the 50 States under direction of our talented teacher Linda Pietz or something like that. And we would need an easel to put it on. It's not required, but it would be a nice touch.

I picked up the flowers yesterday at Cal Expo. As for the prize money, they told me "the check is in the mail". If any of you want to come by my house and get your flower, you certainly can, but you would need to hand deliver it back to the Art Walk Thursday night. A couple of the flowers look a little worse for wear and need a little sprucing or repair, in which case I have already emailed the owner to come and pick up ASAP and fix before the Art Walk.

After the Art Walk, we are entered into the Gold Country Fair. I sent off our entry form last week. During the fair, the flowers will be in the Armory Building under Textile and Clothing, Division 152 (hand-knitted), Class 8 (any other, specify). PS if anyone wants to enter anything into the fair you have until Tuesday Aug 10th to get your entry form in and it is ONE DOLLAR per item to enter.

I plan to take home all the flowers from the Art Walk and just hold onto them until the Gold Country Fair drop off which is Tuesday Aug 24th. (Judging is 8/25 and then I will pick them all up on 9/13 when the fair is over and will get them all back to you then). Again, if any of you want to keep your flower with you between the Art Walk and the Gold Country Fair that is fine.

I would like people to work half-hour shifts during the Art Walk. Please email me back if you can do that. 6-6:30, 6:30-7, 7-7:30, 7:30-8, 8-8:30, or 8:30 to 9. All you have to do is stand there and look cute as you guard the flowers from theft or harm. And answer questions from your adoring public. We, The Knotty Knitters have been making a name for ourselves over these past few years, and our community awaits, I am sure.

As always, email or call me if you have any questions." Her email address is fourwesties@yahoo.com.

"PS....when I was at Cal Expo yesterday, a woman who is part of the Camelia City Stockinettes Knitting Guild came up to me and asked if we would bring the flowers to one of their meetings ... Maybe someone would like to do that? Or a group of us? Anyone interested in meeting gals from a Sacto Knitting Guild? Date and details TBD."

Diana, we deeply appreciate all the hard work you do in getting us in the fairs and making the deliveries. Thank you very much!

Happy knitting everyone!
